This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“You don’t have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great”- My students are some of the greatest people that you'll ever meet. They are creative, curious, funny, sometimes lazy, sometimes disorganized, kind and eager to help. My students attend an urban high school where 94% of students qualify for the federal lunch program. Many come from first-generation American homes where English is not spoken. We, like many public schools, struggle with arts funding and we rely on your generosity to fill in the financial gaps that allow us to provide our students with the art opportunities they crave.

My students are always creating, drawing, sculpting, folding, carving, critiquing, analyzing, comparing, problem solving, and LEARNING!

I am a Studio Arts teacher, who loves their job! During this unprecedented time, I need your help. I am looking for ways to make learning engaging, appropriate and most importantly successful for all of my amazing students.

My Project

In our Arts class my students are always excited to explore new materials and how they can be implemented in both traditional and non-traditional ways. These alternative materials will serve as a jumping off point for student artists to create a variety of personal artwork throughout the year and help them to better express themselves as they explore and respond to their world and the visual world around them.

These alternative materials, such as the stencils and dot painters, will be especially beneficial to my students with special needs, helping them to feel successful in our art class.
