This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The materials for this project will be used to create enriching independent centers! I would love to be able to create a listening center using the tape decks that requires our students to listen to a number story, act it out with manipulatives and solve with equations that match. Other materials will be used to help improve our working memories through hands on, engaging games. Among many others, a learning gap that I have noticed since returning to in person learning is applying logic and perseverance through problem solving. Our community is rooted in diversity, which adds a layer to learning for over 50% of our students with English as a second language. Because of the learning loss from the pandemic, small group instruction is required almost daily. These centers would be used while I am working with a small group - to make sure that every minute counts as we work on life skills that will transfer to math skills. I would love to be able to create a sense of independence through these centers that will help our students with much more than just academics.
