Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The main challenge my students face is living in a low-income community. Many of my students are required to take care of themselves and have little to no help with schoolwork at home. I try my best to make my classroom a safe, comfortable environment that is their home away from home.
My students are all ELL students.
I have 21 total students, 12 girls and 9 boys. Each student is wonderful in his or her own way. They attend a public school in a low-income community. There is little or no parent support, which makes it difficult to have at-home support. My students are everything to me! That's why it is so important that my classroom is where they want to spend their time at learning!
My Project
My students need materials such as Getting the Main Idea Card Box, FInding the Sequence Card Box andBuilding Comprehension Skills Activity Folders and organizers such as 11 multicolor storage boxes and five Tabletop Paper Centers to help with Daily 5 Centers. Materials will be used during Daily 5, a new approach to the traditional "centers". The materials include several comprehension activities that students can use to help them practice reading comprehension. Having these materials will allow students to work with peers, or independently, both helping them improve their reading comprehension, an important life-long skill.
In addition, we are asking for organization materials to help us have a place for the materials.
This project is so important because students struggle with reading comprehension on a daily basis.
The more interesting, stimulating materials that students have access to, the better the chances are for students to be motivated to learn and be successful. It is important to have stimulating, engaging materials to help motivate students in their comprehension learning.
