Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My art students come a low income area. I have really talented students that walk into my classroom with no prior visual art exposure. For this reason I try to make my Drawing I course full of different types of are materials so they can explore and have a taste of different ways to express themselves. Some students love painting while others love pastels but they all have a chance to try everything in my class.
Students must try all types of different quality materials to be able to express themselves and develop their artistic voice.
My Project
In my introductory level course I get a lot of students that have had very little interaction with art materials and with the visual arts. For this reason I like to make different drawing projects using color pencils, chalk pastels, oil pastels, paints, and plaster so that students can discover where they excel in the visual arts. For some that may be every medium for others however they might excel with painting but struggle with pastels. I try to offer every one different opportunities to succeed in different types of mediums and discover which on works best for them.
Through the use of different types of art materials students can experiment and explore their artistic style and voice.
