My Students
Our students are serious artists. They tell me about their trips to art museums, bring in art they have made at home on their own, and excitedly create work that amazes me every day in our school's art room.
Our school is a neighborhood school in one of the largest urban areas in the country.
Our students come to school from the surrounding neighborhood as well as other parts of the city. Having a diverse group of students means that we have a lot of fun in art class. Our kids are serious about their art projects and tell me how excited they are to come to class. They learn from each other as we tackle new projects each year.
My Project
My fourth grade students will be learning all about Renaissance art next year. They will be challenged to distinguish between art of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, to critically discuss the art of the various masters, and to try techniques that have made these artists famous and influential. They will carve like Michelangelo, print like Durer and learn the proportions and perspective studied by Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael and others. They will explore the techniques of fresco painting and try it first-hand on plaster they apply themselves. They will tie together themes and mediums of this time in fun, hands-on projects throughout their school year. I have requested plaster, plates, clay, soap and other materials for sculpting and printing like the masters.
