Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at our school are so AMAZING and special because the majority of them come from many different cultures where they are learning English as a second language! The socioeconomic status in our neighborhoods are low-income and our students are in desperate need of academic resources.
Our students love to explore and be creative in their learning.
They are filled with an excitement and joy to learn! Being a first grader is challenging because the students are making the most growth in first grade! I want to create an exciting and engaging learning environment to help combat these challenges!
My Project
My students need engaging picture books to help them understand and strengthen their social and emotional skills. In the modern day classroom there is a huge focus on social and emotional learning. We are understanding that students are not being taught from a young age how to understand and cope with their emotions, how to build strong healthy relationships, and how to cope with failure and perseverance.
I want my students to be able to understand their emotions, to cope with their emotions, to be able to build strong relationships, and to learn to perservere when dealing with failure.
This is not something that we learn naturally as humans. It is something that we have to LEARN, whether it be through personal experiences or hearing from others experiences. I hope to be able to use these books to show my students how the characters deal with these social and emotional skills. I want them to be able to apply it in their learning and in their everyday life.
