Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As a third grade teacher in the South Bronx, my greatest challenge is meeting the needs of ALL of my students. By third grade, children in this neighborhood come to school with skills ranging from pre-school to fifth grade levels, and everything in between. On a daily basis, I must give extensive remedial lessons to my lowest performing students, engaging practice activities for my on-level students, and enrichment opportunities for my advanced students. Whew! The best and most feasible way to meet such varied needs is through learning centers. Children are sent to different stations around the room where they work on activities that I have tailored to their abilities. This approach has been very effective for reading in my classroom, and I am enlisting your help to make this possible for math as well. I am requesting two sets of math centers from Lakeshore Learning that cover all of the various skills that third graders must master. Daily, independent practice with fractions, money, problem solving, and geometry (and others!) will allow my students to learn at their own pace and level. These flexible and engaging math centers will ensure that ALL of my third graders make huge strides in math, now and in the future! Thank you for your support!
