This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing! Their enthusiasm for learning never ceases to amaze me. They work hard every day, staying engaged with hands-on activities and games that help them practice their skills and increase their knowledge. I love giving them the tools they need to succeed.
We are a low socioeconomic area and highly diverse school in Central California.
Nearly all of my students' learning happens at school. Most of my students have not traveled beyond our city walls. We are a small school with a big heart!
My Project
Magna-tiles will make excellent hands-on learning happen in our geometry unit. Students will be able to make models of the shapes we are working with, measure, label, and make sense of not only the shape itself but what area, surface area, and volume are all about.
We learn best by what we do.
Book learning and technology are important, but hand-on learning is best when it comes to true understanding of a concept. My students need Magna-tiles to make that happen for them in our geometry unit. We will also use these blocks in STEAM engineering lessons next year, combining math and science concepts to design solutions to real-world problems.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
