Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you know how many words per minute you read? Do you read for comprehension? Do you read non-fiction or fiction literature? If you were one of my students the answer is "Yes!" to all of the above but with limited materials.

My students are smart, driven, and very verbal.

They are 95% Hispanic and 5% African American. Most of them do not have a computer or other technology at home. They are exposed to violence and socioeconomic limitations, like lack of food, that others take for granted. Our school provides a safe environment away from gangs and other socioeconomic limitations. In my classroom, they get to dream, the sky is the limit. They've planned future traveling plans, designed their dream homes, and have become celebrated community heroes. The classroom is a safe haven where dreaming high is encouraged. Nothing is impossible when they dream, write, and share their future plans. They would thrive as enthusiastic learners if they are provided with the memories that will last a lifetime. They will experience and recollect their memories in a whole new way.

My Project

My students are all English learners and struggle with reading comprehension. The materials like Hot Dots language arts and reading cards and Talking Hot Dots Pen Set, will help them succeed in reading comprehension. The Hot Dot cards will help them learn reading strategies such as identifying the main idea, fact and opinion, making inferences, summarizing, and predicting outcomes. The comprehension Hot Dot Cards have reading passages that will give my students an opportunity to have various reading materials such as fiction and nonfiction stories in different reading levels. The more they read and practice the skills needed to answer questions the better they will become. Thus, enhancing their levels of comprehension. My students will have the Hot Dots Cards available in a reading center. These cards will address many different reading levels and comprehension levels as well.

My students need your generous support to make reading comprehension fun and engaging.

They will learn how to be better readers and will have a higher level of comprehension with your help. By supporting this project you are increasing my students chances of success! Students come to my class with different levels of reading and comprehension. The requested supplies will help to differentiate their learning experiences and needs. Thank you for your support.
