it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every day, I wake up feeling like the luckiest person on Earth for getting to teach an amazing group of inquisitive and resilient 3rd graders. Yes, they all come from low-income households. Yes, the majority of them are performing significantly behind academically. Yes, most are identified as English Language Learners, Student With Disabilities, or both.
In spite of all the challenges my students face, they are the most hardworking and enthusiastic bunch.
Their eagerness to become stronger readers and mathematicians is inspiring.
My goal is for all of my students to get access to the resources they need to succeed. No excuses! With your support, I can put these much needed resources into their hands.
My Project
My goal for this academic school year is to move up 80% of my students' reading levels 1 to 1.5 academic years. In doing so, students will have a greater chance at succeeding academically as they will be able to work with grade-level text and expand their critical thinking skills. To accomplish my goal, I am implementing two online reading programs.
Unfortunately, we don't have enough classroom computers to use online based programs, so we are requesting Chromebooks.
The first program, RazKids, is a "research-proven kids' reading program that takes students on a digital journey to become better readers." The second, Accelerated Reader, is a reading motivational program in which students choose their own independent reading books and take short reading comprehension quizzes online. In addition, students have the opportunity to use a math program, DreamBox, which focuses on improving critical thinking skills.
