My Students
My Pre-K students are incredibly curious, smart, engaged human beings, and it is a privilege to be their teacher. Pre-K is such an important year for students. They are learning how to be a student and what school expectations look like. They had an amazing ability to create their own worlds and invite me in; my favorite part of being a Pre-K teacher is taking a glimpse of four and five-year-old brains and experiencing their wondrous and imaginative perspectives.
I am so proud of the creative, positive energy in our room, and I look forward to continuing to provide rich learning opportunities in order to support their development!
My Project
LEGO sets will help my students access their creative imaginations and build worlds of their very own! I have chosen a set with a very open ended feel - no real instructions! - because I feel that my students will create some amazing things without prompting or steps to follow. I included a world people set so all of my students see their skin colors represented in our classroom materials. These Pre-K kids are learning through play, and there are many students in my class, in our whole school, who are very motivated to learn through building LEGO. Not only will kids be learning to problem solve, use flexible thinking, and beefing up their fine motor skills, they will be learning teamwork and how to work together to accomplish a goal!
