Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are recently-arrived immigrant students who live in some of the zicodes that have been most-affected by COVID19.
Despite having the technology and enough internet connection to work asychronously, they struggle to connect to school because other basic needs are not met.
My Project
"I don't want to get behind in my studies, but I have... so many things. I am putting my trust in God." Explanations like this are the responses to my gentle questions about schoolwork.
This student, like others in the family, were providers and they are no longer able to be providers.
Until basic needs are met, these students will struggle to engage in school, even though they want to and have the technology from the school to do so. In this case, the families need basic supplies and easy-to-prepare food. Food and supplies gives them a reason to have faith that they are supported in finishing the school year.
