This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a visual and performing arts high school where the majority of our students come from low-income families.
What I love about my students is that they are incredibly creative as young artists and also apply themselves to their academic studies.
They are special because even though they have disabilities, they routinely work hard to overcome the difficulties they face. A recent success in the classroom happened when a student with attention and anxiety challenges was able to use technology to help him focus and successfully organize information when working on a lengthy project and research paper.
My Project
Access to a clean mask is essential to the safety of my students. We all know from wearing masks for over a year that they get wet and need to be changed.
I have requested individually wrapped masks for added protection and that they are sanitary when distributed.
My students are from low socioeconomic communities that may not be able to afford extra masks. They will be able to focus on their classes rather than worry about their safety. Additionally, the masks are fashionable, which I know the students will enjoy.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
