Mask Madness: Help Students See How Letter Sounds Are Formed
Help me give my students a set of photographic tools, called The T4R Box, that helps them to learn their letter sounds and the most common sounds in English.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are joyous and enthusiastic multiple language learners. Most of my diverse kindergarteners are students with emergent language skills.
My kindergartners love to play pretend, sing songs, engage in movement activities, and learn their letters and letter sounds.
They are most excited about becoming readers and writers this year!
The kindergarteners are very excited to be back in the school building and we are just starting to go back to 5 days a week! All of my students had their pre-k classroom experience interrupted by COVID-19 last year. Some of my students never had adequate technology to be able to learn remotely with their class or their family was going through circumstances that prevented them from being able to do remote learning. Many of my students have been personally affected by the consequences of the pandemic. Our community had a high number of Coronavirus cases and experienced many of the traumas and consequences that come along with it, including loss of life and jobs, lack of child care, as well as food and basic need insecurity.
My Project
These Phoneme/Grapheme Photograph Cards will help my students learn how to position their mouth in order to learn letter sounds this year. It's been difficult to teach letter sounds while I have to wear a face mask that covers my mouth. Cognitive science research says that kids need to see how the sounds are formed in the mouth in order to learn them and transfer the sounds to their long-term memory.
These special cards and tools will show them pictures of how the mouth forms each letter sound.
There is no money for purchasing new materials like these this year due to the drastic COVID-19 budget cuts.
This Phoneme/Grapheme Photograph Card Kit will be used in school and shared with our families to use at home so the kindergarteners can learn how to form their letter sounds.
Phoneme/Grapheme Photograph Cards are the highly effective way for students to learn their letter sounds based on the science of how students learn to read!
