My Students

"How come MY instrument won't ring?" That is a question my students ask me all the time. Some of our classroom instruments are beyond repair and need to be replaced so that all of our instruments are able to ring beautifully. We would also like a set of "composer posters" to enhance our study.

My students love to learn and deserve all of the opportunities and resources that we can provide in order to help them pursue their dreams.

As students who attend a Title 1 school, almost all of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The majority of my students are also learning English as their second language. With these labels come the very real reality that my students are at high risk of not completing school. With the realities of poverty and language barriers in their way, it is my job to make sure that every moment of their educational day is enriched, exciting and inspiring. By providing these basic resources we are ensuring that their educational needs are met and that they have the same chances as other students to succeed and achieve their dreams.

My Project

My school is almost 50 years old and some of our equipment is older than I am. When possible, I repair instruments that are repairable. However, there are some instruments in our classroom that are in desperate need of replacement. One of those instruments that it is time to replace is our alto metallophone. Our music classroom is also in need a set of "Composer Posters" from both the Classical and Modern eras. A picture is worth a thousand words and one picture of Mozart in his wig can open up a whole conversation with students. I wish you could all be there when my kindergarten students ask me, "Is that George Washington?"

These resources are critically important to my students because they are considered standard equipment for music classrooms.

Our current alto metallophone is beyond repair and causes my students unending frustration. The posters of major composers will also be used daily as we refer to them throughout our day as we sing and listen to music together. These resources will transform the learning of my students.
