My Project
This year our county switched to a new, heavily science and social studies based, language arts curriculum. While this is an amazing step in the right direction for the county, some of these concepts can be abstract and difficult to understand, especially for my students who are English Language Learners. One way I make concepts easier to understand for my ELLs is through the use of realia, or real-life objects. Using real-life concrete objects helps ELLs develop vocabulary, connect content to prior knowledge they have in their native language, increases their memory, and has a number of other benefits.
Help me bring these concepts to life with models of the human body, life cycles, and so much more.
These requested models, maps, and materials will help my students in kindergarten all the way through 5th grade. The model of the human body will help students understand the anatomy and systems of the human body. The set of animals will help Kindergarteners as they learn about farm animals as well as 3rd graders as they learn about animal classification and characteristics. The rocks will help students in grades 3-5 learn more about geology and the earth. The solar system resources will help students in all grades learn about the planets around us. These models, maps, materials and book about the Aztecs will not just be used this school year, but for many years to come.
