Marvelous Minds: Cultivating the Next Generation of Fantasy Readers

My Project

Imagine a space where young minds can dream unapologetically, connect to the wonder of storytelling, and see themselves as heroes in the magical worlds they love. Help me bring this vision to life by giving each student in my upcoming lunchtime book club a copy of the children's fantasy novel, The Marvellers.

This project is about more than just reading—it’s about showing my students that they belong in the stories they love and that their imaginations are limitless; your donation will help me nurture the next generation of fantasy and sci-fi lovers.

I have the pleasure of teaching a bright and curious group of students in a predominantly Black and Latino school on the Southside of Chicago. They’re dreamers, creators, and scholars, full of ENERGY and ideas. Many of them are already drawn to fantasy and science fiction stories, but they often don’t see themselves reflected in the magical worlds they love.

As someone who grew up immersed in fantasy worlds like Narnia and A Wrinkle in Time, I know the profound power of seeing yourself in the stories you love. My goal is to give my students that same magic: books that affirm their identities, expand their imaginations, and ignite their love for reading. By reading The Marvellers, we’ll explore themes of identity, belonging, and bravery while celebrating the creativity and wonder that come with great fantasy storytelling.

Your donation will help to provide 22 copies of Dhonielle Clayton’s The Marvellers, to a bold community of readers and thinkers, inspiring my students to see themselves in the stories they love, celebrate identity and resilience, and ignite their imaginations to dream big and explore a world of wonder, friendship, and courage.
