This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am fortunate to work in an urban school where I can teach, support, and learn each day from eager third grade mathematicians. These hard working students are deserving of the best foundational math skills and instruction possible. They strive to think with mathematical reasoning and problem solve using specific skills and strategies.

Most of my students are second language learners and know that education is one of the keys to success.

In order to fully support all learners, is important that I have the best foundation of professional development, which will allow me to facilitate and guide students effectively. Having this opportunity to gain knowledge and grow in my own teaching will benefit all of my future students. I am looking forward to continuing my education and refining my equational practices in mathematics.

My Project

This two-day professional development focuses on fact fluency and number sense for all learners at a variety of levels within the classroom. My students next year, and in years to come, will directly benefit from my new expertise and innovative teaching strategies gained through this exciting professional development. I will strengthen my foundation of math instruction which will in turn help students grown as mathematicians. I will also be fortunate enough to learn from well known educator and mathematician, Greg Tang, as well as Dr. Nicki Newton, author of a book my third grade team and I did a book study on this year. Both of these individuals will share valuable knowledge that Im confident will yield strong results in my student's success. I look forward to sharing this information with other educators in my school and my students!
