My students need math materials to expose them to beginning math skills such as patterning, sorting, counting, categorizing, and measuring.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a classroom of adorable 4-year-olds eager and curious about the world around them. Many of them are English language learners. Many of my students come from families where only one parent works. They are not given the opportunity to have many outside experiences, based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. Please help me develop a love for learning by providing my students with math materials to help them grow as they begin their journey as young mathematicians.
My Project
Children are natural mathematicians. In order to engage my young students in math, I will need engaging hands-on materials that will motivate and pique the interests of my little growing mathematicians. It is for this reason that I am requesting materials from Lakeshore Learning. The Shapes and Patterning Smart Pencil interactive Learning Cards will give my little ones exposure to the skill of identifying, making, and extending patterns in a fun and motivating way. The Numbers and Counting Smart Pencil Interactive Learning Cards will introduce my students to number identification and counting in a meaningful and fun way. The measurement activities will expose my students to beginning math measurement vocabulary such as longer, shorter, taller, heavier, lighter, same length/height, etc. These materials will help me teach these skills in a fun, interactive, exciting way.
Open-ended, playful exploration encourages children to solve problems in real situations.
Because the situations are meaningful, children can gain a deeper understanding of number, quantity, size, patterning, etc. These materials will make a difference in my students' learning and improve their school lives. With your help, the children will be exposed to different materials, manipulatives, and games that will teach them important skills such as patterning, sorting, categorizing, counting, and measuring. The children will also learn how to explain their mathematical thinking, which will also aid in language development.
This foundation is crucial and will be used as a stepping stone as they continue and build on what they learn in the future.
