This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in a city where crime rates are high and there is a 98% poverty rate. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that any other student is able to have.

Although I may not be able to control their home lives, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.

By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My students, although only three and four years old are hard workers, and they deserve to come to school and feel safe and loved, and I'm happy to be the one who is able to give them that.

My Project

Currently, the children are using "hand-me-down" centers and activities that I have accumulated or created, in addition to the few centers that were donated in the beginning of the year. They love them, but they deserve so much more. The centers that your donation will provide will allow them experiences with new activities and games that they have never used. They include all the materials that they children would need to play math games centering around problem solving, one to one correspondence and early addition. They will reinforce all the learning that we do in class this year. The math centers will also allow me, as the teacher, to see what groups of children that I will have to focus on with certain skills--so that none of them fall behind! All the children deserve an equal shot at success, and with the additional practice these centers provide, they will have just that!
