My Students

My students are definitely becoming tech savvy! I try to implement as much technology as possible. Many do not have these resources at home. Small group meetings across all subject areas occur daily in order to meet the needs of my struggling students as well as those that need an academic challenge

My class consists of nineteen fourth graders who are eager to learn and explore.

Three students are ESE and six are ELL (English Language Learners). 100% of the students at my school receive free or reduced lunches. The poverty rate in my schools neighborhood is very high. Even though my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, that does not mean that they cannot learn or progress. They just need a little extra push, and people who believe in them. My students love things like technology and working on projects. I believe that by teaching them how to work together collaboratively is an important social skill that will carry them through life.

My Project

My students will use the requested materials during small group meetings with myself, as well as in math centers. After 30 - 45 minutes of whole group instruction, the class will be broken into four small groups and center rotations. These last 15 - 20 minutes. By doing this, I am able to meet everyone's individual needs. If students need remediation or even a push forward, then I can provide that as well. The math literature books will be added to my classroom library. Students will partner read and discuss the books. The math center activity cards will be used in centers and they will work collaboratively when not with me at small group. Having these materials added to my math block will allow my students to practice the skills that will make them successful. Using the real world math activity cards will allow my students to practice important life skills. I want them to integrate the technology I already have in my class with the requested materials to do research and projects

This is the first time I have taught fourth grade.

I have taught eleven years, but always in first and second. I entered the school year with very little materials for small group and center rotations. Fifty percent of my students did not make a passing score of a three or higher on last years FCAT assessment. They made either a one or two. These items will allow me to reinforce the new standards that are being taught and the new math assessment that my students will take in the Spring of 2015.
