Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Being able to treat others with kindness and fairness are things my students are having difficulty with. I want my students to be able to share the positive and good things they see in their classmates, instead of focusing on the negative. I want our class to be filled with peacemakers.
I have a class of 22 energetic kindergarten students.
My class is composed of 11 boys and 11 girls. Our school is located in a low socioeconomic area of South Los Angeles. We are considered a Title 1 school because 95 to 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students attend before and after school programs where they get help with homework in a safe environment.
My Project
The literature books My Black Me, No Mirrors in My Nana's House, and the All About Me Art Activities will help me plan lessons that will help my students understand the importance of being kind and fair. The headphones will allow us to research and listen to videos and clips, in our computer lab, about peaceful interactions and resolutions of issues common to our grade level.
Your donations to this project will help build the positive self images of my kindergarten students.
My hope is that through this project, my students will learn the importance of being a peacemaker and how it can help us build a more caring and peaceful classroom community.
