Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach all subjects with a group of third graders in New York City. Situated in the strained South Bronx, these kids attempt daily to escape the adversities that are the realities of their lives. Most of these students come to school with emotional and psychological obstacles that school is the last thing on their mind. They lack the motivation and the desire to learn the vast amount of knowledge that the world has to offer.
Over the years, I have noticed that students will become enthusiastic to learn if I use modern ways of teaching such as using hands-on manipulatives and activities as well as individual dry erase lap boards instead of the traditional pencil and paper. This year I would like to try to convert my blackboard to a dry erase board since they enjoy using the lap boards. I also want to use a classroom dry erase board with colored markers because using colored chalk proved to be difficult to see and wash. With generous donors like you, that idea has become a reality. Now however, I need dry erase markers to use on the new classroom dry erase board so that the students can come up and demonstrate their strategies as well as continuing to use their individual dry erase lap boards.
I would like to supply my students with dry erase markers-both in black and in color. Won't you give my students the motivation and the tools to learn?
