Mariachi Music for Our Concert Bands

Help me give my students four mariachi songs to play in our concert bands.

My Project

I have been inspired by one of my students to seek out mariachi music, traditional Mexican folk songs, and original music by Mexican American composers. This student plays me a song of the day from his culture, each and every day. The songs range from mariachi, Norteño, Ranchera, Corrido, and Cumbia.

Jorge Vargas is a Mexican American composer who writes concert band compositions and arrangements that features mariachi melodies and themes.

These selections will give us more options for programming for our fall concert (La Bruja "The Witch"), winter concert (A Mariachi Christmas), and for a march for festival season (El Manto Dorado).
