My students come to school excited and eager to learn every day. Although the school is a Title I school and only one student owns her instrument, the entire group of 102 students is eager to participate with the school band. All of our students receive free lunch and those who participate after school receive dinner and a snack. Our students have many challenges, especially in the neighborhood, but all members of the faculty and staff are very supportive of them.
My Project
Students in middle school very seldom or rarely participate in marching band; however, the only bass drum that we have for our band performances is a bass drum. It's not in very good condition and it has no drum stand for it.
When students move from middle school to high school, they are expected to know how to stand and how to play the bass drum correctly.
Because I have no concert drum, I have to simulate how students are to play the drum. Often, my students have been intimidated when faced with a real concert drum at other schools.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
