My Students
Our Music classroom at RES is a place for discovering and expressing talent. Our scholars are bright, young students who yearn for a positive outlet through music. Our school is a Title One School of Excellence with a diverse group of students from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. My students are a creative bunch that love making music through singing, movement, and instrumental playing.
My daily goal is to provide my students with a fun-filled musical experience each time they enter my classroom.
To accomplish this, we are in dire need of classroom instruments.
My Project
The use of drums is essential in a music classroom. Not only is creating and performing rhythms on drums, as well as, responding to world music, a part of curriculum standards, but they are also what our students are interested in doing when they come to Music class. Currently, we have a very small inventory of classroom rhythm instruments.
With the addition of these drums, my students can engage in playing the instruments they learn so much about.
To heighten their general music experience, I would love to be able to implement drum circles and other world-drumming activities. Right now, classes of about 25 students share two large drums. Most students don’t get to play the large drums due to not having enough of them to go around. Having these drums will allow for more students to play at a time. They will also be large enough for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to use in percussion ensembles.
