Marching To The Beat Of Different Drums

My students need 3 flip camcorders to participate in differentiated instruction in the media center.

Imagine a place where students learn through books, multimedia, technology, and with no limits but their own imaginations! This is our library!! Not all students are alike ~ the media center serves each and every student each week ~ providing an opportunity to influence the success and learning of all children!! Differentiated instruction applies an approach to teaching and learning so that students have multiple options for taking in information and making sense of ideas. To differentiate instruction is to recognize students varying background knowledge, readiness, language, preferences in learning, interests; and to react responsively. The media center is beginning a co-teaching unit with first and second grades which allows several pathways for students to arrive at an understanding of natural resources and magnets, by creating technology based final projects. How exciting!

As part of the 2009-2010 budget cut, our media center lost not only 60% of the funds to purchase new books, but also our entire improving quality budget of $750. Part of our plan for improving the quality of the media center this year was to purchase flip camcorders to differentiate student instruction and introduce new and fantastic technology to our young students. Unfortunately, the funding for this vision has been cut. Please help us see through our goals of instructing all children through varied and exciting projects and instruction.

Students need choices as to how they will engage in classroom activities in order to be successful. They have to be Excited and Interested about the topics discussed in order to participate and make academic gains. Furthermore, connecting curriculum in the classroom with life happenings outside of the classroom makes learning more meaningful! When students take ownership of their learning, they become involved, interactive, and take control by using their individual learning styles to access information, interpret material, and demonstrate what they have learned. Flip camcorders allow students to have a new and innovative excitement for their learning, as well as preparing them for the technology of the future. But when you come right down to it ~ these types of projects just make learning more FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can make a difference in the learning and excitement of 540 students!! That is the number of students I see each week!! I can't wait to put together fantastic projects where children will have final product that they've created and shared!! Instilling learning at a young age can only benefit the future of our children and our own futures as well.
