it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
There are lots of folks that want to be drummers and the only problem is they don't have any drums! Help us get our marching snare drums back in working order so our musicians can get the beat rolling again!
We are a Title 1, inner city school in Connecticut.
100% of the students receive free or reduced lunches and breakfast. Our school has one thing that a lot of other schools don't; a marching band! Our band has received recognition throughout our city for their talent and we have triumphed using what we have! Unfortunately, our snare drum heads for marching band have seen better days. Being in the drum line for marching band is a big deal for my students! My students work tirelessly on their music, learn together, and love all of the experiences that marching band allows them to have! Our marching band performs in parades and outdoor events every school year and our school staff and administration comes out in full support! Within any given school year, my students will have performed for thousands of people!
My Project
These drum heads were around before I started working at our school...5 years ago! We have managed with out of tune drum heads because there is no money in our budget to replace them. Being in a marching band is an experience all on its own that is incomparable to all the other things that we do in band. Marching band is the chance for our entire city community to see what we do, not just within the walls of our school building. These materials will get our marching snares up and working again, with a fresh, new, clear sound which my students deserve! All of our snare drum heads need to be replaced along with a snare harness attachment. We also need proper marching snare drum sticks because concert stick are not appropriate for outdoor drum use. We also have two marching snare drums with no harnesses. With new carriers for these drums, we can expand the size of our drum line and give new students an opportunity to play!
The drummers in our band work harder than most of the musicians.
They are not just responsible for one instrument, but many percussion instruments. Our marching snares are at the point of being unusable, and without them, our drum line becomes nonexistent! My students deserve to play on working equipment and right now, we don't have that. Please help us get our drummers rolling to the beat from a proper drum line!
