My Project
The March Madness Picture Book Tournament is a fun, interactive project where 4th-grade students engage with a variety of picture books organized in a bracket, similar to a sports tournament. Each book represents a “team,” and students are divided into small groups to read and analyze one of the books. They will discuss the storyline, characters, illustrations, and overall message, then prepare to argue why their book should advance to the next round.
After each group discussion, the class will vote on which book moves forward.
The book with the most votes advances, while the other is eliminated. This continues until two books remain for the final match-up. Students will then vote to determine the ultimate winner. Through this process, students develop reading comprehension, critical thinking, and teamwork skills, all while enjoying the excitement of the competition.
