My Project
This March in tandem with March Madness we will have our own school competition, a Tournament of Books. As the librarian, I will read these books to all the students and allow them to vote on their favorite. For this project, I will order 22 fiction/non fiction books chosen by the teachers in the school. In addition, I will also order a traveling trophy that the winning teacher will keep in their classroom for the year. Each week, I will read 2 books to the students and they will pick a favorite between the two. Once all students have had a chance to vote on the books one will move forward in the competition until we have a final winner.
Not only will it create an excitement and buzz around reading, but it will get the teachers of the school involvement in a friendly competition.
These books are high quality literature that will allow us to encourage reading while focusing on specific skills. They have picked a mixture of genres, authors and topics. As much as I was able I chose hardcover books to ensure that this project can live on year after year.
