My Students
How can you learn about how the European Explorers navigated our planet to discover unknown lands if you can not see what someone is talking about! Yes, we can look in the text book, but those maps are small and outdated! With classroom maps my student's will have maps they can interact with!
My students are 12 individuals who are diagnosed with Emotional Disturbances.
Coming from some of the toughest economic backgrounds in New York City, my students come in with little to no supplies. When they are doing classwork they have a hard time understanding geographic relationships from one country to another, and often times can not even locate countries on a map, due to a lack of maps over the course of their education. With my students primarily being visual learners, it is a great disadvantage to them that they do not have a set of classroom maps to illustrate the geographic relationships and geographic features that can be taught with a map. Rather than let my students go without, it is our job to provide them with new materials that will not only motivate them, but may get them to the next level of their education!
My Project
The materials that will be essential to improving my students understanding of geographic relationships from one country to the next as well as discovering how geographic features may impede or aid countries and civilizations throughout the world are:
