Mapping Justice: Centering Representation in Geography Education
Help me give my students The power to see themselves and the world clearly. Many of my students have never seen a map that centers their culture, their language or their neighborhood. This project will change that.
What I love most about my students is their deep curiosity and compassion. They ask powerful questions like why does some places have more than others and why do borders change? They want to understand the world not just where countries are but why it matters. They come from diverse backgrounds, and bring incredible inside into class discussions. My students want to explore to change what they think they know and to see where they fit in the world around them.
These geography resources will meet them exactly where they are- curious thoughtful, and eager to engage.
Political and physical maps will allow students to see the contrast between natural features and human made boundaries. They’ll use them to examine how borders affect people resources and conflict.
Interactive globes and atlases will help students explore perspectives beyond the US centered view they often see. These tools show that geography is not just about facts. It’s about stories, power and perspective.
