My Students

I teach 9th and 10th grade students in the course with a dual focus of Natural Resources and Food Production using a farm to table theme. For this project, I will be also partnering with the Residential and Commercial Construction program. My school is just beginning to implement wall to wall career academy programming. This project will introduce a strong project-based learning approach in these two career pathways. The community that the school serves is rural with a strong sense of community. Teachers generally live in the community and know all of the students as well as their families.

Our students embrace opportunities to work as a team and to problem-solve authentic, real life challenges.

They excel in application-based learning that holds relevance to their present and future lives. After a year of distance learning, this project will recapture the excitement for learning.

My Project

This project is about welcoming students back to school after a year of sheltered learning isolated from their teachers and peers. All of the learning will be using to accentuate the value of teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving in an in-person setting. This will be a project-based experience that will incorporate design thinking strategies using the school farm as the client. Lessons will include proper use and ethical use of equipment and tools, introduction of design principles and the role of environmental factors in natural resources and will apply this information to the task.

Students will utilize the drone in teams of five to design a farm layout that is efficient, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing.

Considerations include environmental factors such as topography, wind patterns, and sun direction. The drone will be an integral tool in identifying key factors in determining the best placement for systems and plant production. They will partner with the Residential and Commercial Construction team to create the blueprint and layout maps.
