My students need more manipulatives in our classroom so they do some hands-on exploration.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am new to teaching special education. I teach at a Title I school. I have been given a brand new classroom in the middle of the school year with very few supplies. My students have severe and profound intellectual disabilities. They are nonverbal and wheelchair-bound. Some have vision impairments and require feeding tubes as well. These students are sweet as can be and deserve a proper classroom that stimulates their brains. Their smiles brighten up our day, but I'd like to make them smile more often with items that spice up our classroom and their lives.
My Project
We need more items to make our classroom more fun! Our special ed students love to learn and interact with their environment. These items would help them do that!
These manipulatives would provide our students with the hands-on exploration they need to learn concepts we're teaching this year.
The mat will be a great addition for our circle time area because it's padded so if the students fall in that area, they will not get hurt. We also plan to purchase the blocks that coordinate with the mat so we can practice matching colors!
The sign language foam letters will be a great addition because I intend to teach students sign language and we can refer to them when we are talking about the letters and when we sing our alphabet and phonics songs.
