Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“Math is awesome! Can we do math please? Is it math time yet? Now is it math time?” Teachers dream of hearing such words from their students, and I am living the dream. My kindergarten students can’t get enough of math! Their bright, shiny, excited eyes keep me searching for ways to bring more math into our short day, and to extend this enthusiasm forever.
My school serves a low-income, inner city, English-learner population that is working hard to break the cycle of poverty. Children who love math and stay in school can become scientists, doctors, accountants, or anyone they want to be. Math is the way out of poverty, and I am doing everything I can to support my students’ adoration for numbers, counting, and sorting. Please help me support our community and California’s economy with math manipulatives and games. My students will become our future workers, and we need to teach them all the skills necessary for success.
“Count with Me!” magnetic books allow the students to practice their counting skills in a fun, independent way during their free time. Tactile numbers are a wonderful, kinesthetic aid to reinforce recognition of numbers. The children trace their finger over the rough surface of the number. The set of counting boxes are incredibly engaging games that will reinforce math skills while allowing the kids to check their answers.
Please help my students by donating these engaging math manipulatives! They need tactile activities to build a strong, concrete foundation in math skills before we can move on to abstract concepts. Your help is so very much appreciated – I can’t even tell you how important a tool math manipulatives are to children.
Thank you for your consideration of our future mathematicians and scientists!
