My Students

My first grade students come from various backgrounds from inner-city Philadelphia. My students are very hardworking and motivated to learn all the time. They absolutely love hands-on activities, reading, and any project that allows them to be challenged while being creative. They have so much potential to be awesome readers, writers, and mathematicians, and I am hoping that with a little extra push, they will all be successful and remember their first grade class as the best class they ever had!

My Project

We all know the last two school years have been difficult, especially on our littlest scholars. One of the biggest struggles I witnessed was math. Without having physical manipulatives, it can be very challenging for young minds to grasp foundational math concepts. Developmentally, small children need to be able to feel and see concrete items to truly understand the value of a number.

Manipulatives really do make math fun!

Learning to count, add, and subtract is so much easier with physical items to hold. These math sets will really help my students learn math and get a chance to practice it in a way that's fun for them independently or in small groups.
