My Students
My students live in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. Our school is a diverse learning community of about 1,000 students, from kindergarten through grade five.
Our class is part of the Gifted/High Ability Magnet and they are eager second graders who love to learn and apply their learning to real-life experiences.
We have children who come from middle income homes and those who come from very low-income homes.
My Project
I am requesting math manipulatives and resources from Teachers Pay Teachers to help my students practice and build important math foundational skills. In second grade, we spend a lot of time learning about number sense and math operations. These place value disks help bring hands on learning to students. Using these concrete objects help with the exploration of concepts.
When students manipulate objects, they are working towards building understanding and internalizing math processes and procedures.
These disks will help my students master two and three digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping. They can also be used to teach other math concepts such as money, multiplication, and division.
Teachers Pay Teachers is a rich resource with many activities my students will use to explore and practice with the place value disks.
