This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are 9th-12th grade and are all smart and capable of learning math. They are a mixture of students who love math and students who dread it. They are all capable but sometimes they have a hard time understanding the content, especially in geometry! They struggle because geometry is all about shapes, they have a hard time visualizing them and understanding what we are doing with the shapes. I want manipulatives that will help them physically see what we are doing and talking about in class. One thing they could really use is the 3-D shapes and nets. These are useful when we are discussing volume and surface area. They can see where the formulas are derived from and use the nets to help them see what areas are needed.

Another thing that would greatly help them are the Exploragon sets, these are useful when we learn about angles, inscribed angles, arcs, and relationships with circles.

Students will be able to measure angles and see the relationships involved.

We also need the storage container to keep all the new materials in one place for easy access. We need file folders to keep all their notes organized. Lastly, we need snacks so they have energy to focus on learning.
