My students need manipulatives such as log-builders, Magna-Tiles, and shape builders, large wooden jigsaw puzzles and a complete set of Feed-The-Animals Fine Motor Games.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” – Fred Rogers
I have observed that my students enjoy learning through sensory and fine motor play.
My students are thoughtful and open to discovering new materials and enjoy building with their hands and using their creativity during free play. In the last few weeks, I have observed that my students need more challenging materials to advance their learning experience. They enjoy building large sculptures with LEGO bricks and spend much time playing with the few puzzles in my classroom. Currently, we have limited materials in our classroom, and it has become increasingly difficult for me to plan activities to engage fine motor and cognitive learning.
My Project
As a preschool teacher, I support and encourage discovery and learning through play. My students need manipulatives such as log-builders, Magna-Tiles, and shape builders, large wooden jigsaw puzzles and a complete set of Feed-The-Animals Fine Motor Games.
My role is to facilitate curiosity and develop collaboration within my classroom climate. I strongly believe in selecting educational materials that are open-ended in order to help children create, build, and construct ideas. I hope that these manipulative items and puzzles for the classroom will encourage collaboration and social interaction as a way to work together and take turns. I want my students to think "outside of the box" and use manipulatives as a way to construct their ideas in the physical form. I also want to encourage understanding of how things go together by providing puzzles that encourage persistence and allow them time to finish what they have started. These resources will encourage free play as a vehicle for the children to be independent in choosing the materials and become more visionary.
I strongly believe this project will help improve my classroom because it will introduce my students to new open-ended learning materials.
Due to a budget shortfall, I am unable to provide these materials and have limited learning toys for my students. I want my students to enter school-age programs with the ability to work in groups and to develop an understanding of abstract concepts. I know this donation will be effective in providing my classroom with materials for success.
