Manipulative Madness

My Students

My students are just entering Kindergarten, their first full day school experience. They have had a smooth transition and are learning the rules and procedures of their new classroom and school. Most of my students are coming from low income families from West Philadelphia. They are eager to make new friends, learn to read and write, do simple math problems, and learn about the world around them in science and social studies. The students in my classroom are learning to be part of a community where we help one another, respect one another, and make all children feel welcome.

My Project

Using manipulative's in both reading and math can help students use all of their senses and assist them in better understanding the problem. My students need to hold things, manipulate them and see them in front of them in order to get the most out of a lesson. I can use all of these hands on activities at my different reading and math centers. I can use them in whole group, small group and one on one lessons as well. These will greatly assist my students in their daily work. We have 25 students in our classroom so having many options for hands on activities that will keep the students engaged will be beneficial when I have to work with small groups. These different materials will make a difference in our classroom.
