Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Arriving at a young age in this country, I was faced with the struggle of learning another language. I was able to understand new concepts my teachers were teaching me because they used manipulatives that helped engage me and solidify the understanding that would have been more difficult if they hadn't used those materials. I began my education in the United States at the age of 14, and I know that giving my current students these same opportunities in third grade will make an even bigger difference in their lives.

My students are special because they are unique, smart, and kind, and they are learning another language; they are full of energy and dreams.

My class is made up of a mix of Hispanic students and native English speakers. My school district has implemented a Spanish dual-immersion program. The students are taught 50% in Spanish and the other 50% in English. It is very amazing to see third grade students interact in another language that it is not English.

Our school is a Title I school with 50% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

I know that math can be a hard concept to grasp for students. These fraction tower equivalency link cubes will help engage students in fun activities that continue to help them learn. I also would love to use the fraction tool to help the students grasp the concept of equivalent and comparing fractions. I am hoping that this tool will provide an engaging learning experience that will benefit all of the students within my classroom. So, they can learn more quickly the fractions and have a fun experience that's my wish for my students.
