My Project
In High School Libraries, we face a lot of competition. Students juggle demanding classes, sports, clubs, volunteering commitments, jobs, college and career planning, family responsibilities, and friends. It is easy to understand why some high school students begin to read less on their own time. But, our library tackles this challenge by striving to make the perfect book available to our students. For many, this means MANGA!
This is a true student-suggested and student-approved project: our biggest manga readers serve as my manga advisors and helped select these books!
Manga are Japanese-style graphic novels that usually read right to left and back to front, and are instantly recognizable by their trademark look and often exaggerated emotions. They cover all genres--sci-fi, humor, adventure, romance--and are exciting, engaging, and a quick read.
Fans of manga gobble up stand-alone works, but they especially love manga series. Series can be quite long...some run to 20, 30, or more books. It can be tough to purchase complete runs. But the demand is there! In fact, we can't keep up.
