Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In my classroom, students read A LOT! In order to build life-long readers, we spend 30-40 minutes a week reading a book of their own choosing. There is no assignment, no reading journal, no work to do besides reading something they enjoy.
The freedom to choose their own title fosters a love of reading that I hope my students will carry with them throughout their lives.
While I have an extensive library of full text titles to choose from, manga is always a constant request. By providing a variety of manga, I believe that I will reach even more students and show them that there is room for every reader in my classroom and in life, regardless of what type of book they choose to read. All reading is valid reading!
