My Students
My 5th grade students are creative, curious boys and girls who are excited and enthusiastic learners! We are a rural school with a high population of low-income students. The students in my classroom all have different struggles and strengths and learn in different ways. It is my goal that our classroom will be a place where each child is seen and heard and know that they are a valued part of a community. We are fortunate to be able to have in-person learning and are back in school every day. It is my hope that my students will look forward to coming to school to learn something new each day!!
My Project
I am hoping to provide my 5th grade students the opportunity to learn the value of earning, saving, budgeting and working with money through having classroom jobs and responsibilities, as well as a class store. The products purchased through this project will go directly into the class store to be purchased by students with (classroom) money that they have earned.
A class store and economy will give my 5th grade students a real-life experience of the intrinsic and extrinsic rewards of meeting expectations, earning and working with money, and making decisions about how to save or spend that money.
These are critical life skills that will benefit them for years to come. The best part is, we will have fun while doing it!
