Help me give my students wonderful books to read with their families. These titles were chosen for the conversations they will provoke.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 26 wonderful 2nd grade children. Many of the children in my class have experienced trauma, homelessness, and live in multi generational homes. The families of my students are eager to help their children succeed in the world, and live happy healthy lives.
We all know that the young children of today spend countless hours viewing a screen.
Often times this is the only source of connection my students have with their family members.
When feeding and clothing children is a struggle, stress takes over, and can create an environment not conducive for connected moments between parent and child.
My Project
I plan on using these books in a rotation system so that all children get to take the books home, enjoy them, and return them for another. Many of my students lack a home library or the interest of a parent to visit the city library for reading materials to view at home. Our school libraries no longer allow students to bring books home in the lower grades.
I hope that the time spent reading with a family member will increase the connection between student and parent, boost a love of reading, and open conversations about many of the social emotional concepts brought out by these authors.
