My Students
Situated in a rural, high poverty area, my school engages learners in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. We are a positive behavior support school and strive to give our students the best opportunities available to create safe, kind, respectful, responsible learners.
Most of my students do not have access to instruments at home and get most of their music experience in my classroom.
Cultural centers and concert halls are more than an hour away and are often too expensive for students' families. These factors make what happens in music class even more important.
My Project
My students love performing and this year we will be focusing on drumming and rhythmic skills in music class. Inspired by the performing group, STOMP, my students use unconventional items like buckets and tubs for drumming. This unique sound challenges students to work as a team to make music.
Using inexpensive rope handled tubs as bass drums, my students can march to the beat of their own drum with your help.
Adding sturdy bass drum mallets will create a quality sound on the tubs and make this activity accessible to all learners. Partner with us and become a virtual member of our drum circle!
