Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
At my school we have a diverse learning community. My students among the low incidence population. They range from age 11 years old to 14 years old and are in 6th through 8th grade.
In spite of their intellectual disabilities this class in particular is a huge part of the school community.
My students perform daily jobs that allowed them to interact with everyone in the building. They are all pretty popular amongst their peers and have embodied our positive peer culture.
My Project
Writing can be a difficult task for the Special Education population that I serve. So needless to say they shy away from the opportunity to be creative. They believe it to be a boring and mundane task and sometimes outwardly refuse to do the work.
I will use these materials to revitalize writer's workshop.
We are requesting components like the flair pens or printing full color for rainbow writing, and writing prompts purchased on Teachers Pay Teachers will help make writer's workshop more engaging and colorful. In addition there are some basic necessities that we use to write such as pencils, or items we use to maintain out portfolios organized such as paper clips, and finally tape so that we may display our finished work on our writer's corner board. You'd be surprise how switching up the tools can inspire creativity and rejuvenate a student's appreciation for a given content area. And quite frankly how difficult it is to keep a classroom in this area stocked with the tools to succeed.
