Making Visual Supports for Special Education Students With Boardmaker
Help me give my students access to software used to create visual supports for our classroom.

My Project
My students are resilient, creative, curious, funny, and hard-working 3-5 year-olds who attend Pre-K at a Washington, DC public school. Our full-time classroom is part of an elementary school in a neighborhood where most students are considered to be at-risk, determined based on socioeconomic needs. My students have been diagnosed with autism or other communication-related disabilities. Regardless of these labels, my students consistently prove what is possible with hard work and dedication.
My students need visual supports such as symbols to better comprehend the text in story books, to communicate with each other, and to understand routines and directions in the classroom.
Boardmaker is a software program that is tried and true with special educators. Boardmaker includes over 50,000 picture icons and tons of templates for creating things I use every day like token boards and visual schedules. I can even type in the text from a book we are reading and Boardmaker will automatically turn it into symbols! I've been lucky to have access previously through grad school and free trials, but I can no longer use the software without a full license. With your help I can continue to use this software daily for years to come, without worrying about subscription renewal fees!
