My Students

I work with fourth and fifth-grade students with varied backgrounds. Some have never left our city, others come from halfway around the world and have only been in school in the United States for one or two years.

They are amazing kids that love learning, especially when given opportunities to work with each other and to engage in hands-on learning.

I have the opportunity to watch three classes of students fall in love with learning through teaching science and social studies.

Seeing the growth these students have, not only academically but also in learning about each others' cultures and strengths, each year is what makes me excited to return to school every fall. I am even more excited to return this year after a spring where many of my students, especially the English Language Learners, struggled to stay engaged and involved through virtual learning.

My Project

This year we will begin the year with virtual learning through at least the first quarter. Even if we return to the classroom, some of my students will continue to learn from home. I want to provide my students with high quality lessons through online class meetings and video lessons that students can return to as often as needed. I think this is especially important for my many English Language Learners so that that they have a better opportunity to understand and be understood.

Experiments and engaging phenomena are the backbone of a good science class.

With a good video camera and headset I will be able to go beyond sitting in front of the computer to provide exciting, personal learning experiences to my classes. I will be using these tools to film demonstrations and experiments for my classes both for videos and during class meetings. I can't wait to hear my students making predictions and actively engaged as they would be if we were in the classroom!

When we return to in person learning, this camera and single eared headset will allow me to engage with learners both in and out of the classroom. I also look forward to being able to use these tools in school for students to create their own video presentations.
