Making up the Difference With Manipulatives

Help me give my students hands on materials to make up the difference from missing out on two years of early childhood education due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

My Students

The kindergarten students I teach are simply amazing. In spite of their many difficulties, they come to school each day with a smile, a hug, and are ready to learn. They are obedient, thoughtful, and smart.

My students face many difficulties in their young lives, but they do not let this stand in the way of their learning.

I am teaching them to be proactive and to continually learn so they can increase their own circle of influence. Some of my students are English language learners, and many live in poverty. Like all children, they want to be loved and have the opportunity to learn.

My training and experience tell me that in order to instill a love for learning, these students need to be given independence, respect, and responsibility. Independence comes in many ways, from being able to sit where you would like, to choosing what you would like to learn, and having the tools to focus in your environment.

My Project

Many of the students in my kindergarten classroom were unable to attend pre-school because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This left them with a deficit in their learning. The students need more hands on manipulatives to help them get back on track. Many of the items focus on STEM like the Montessori Golden Bead materials which are a concrete way to teach students base ten.

The science puzzles and figurines will give students a better understanding of how plants and animals change over time.

The different puzzles and bran building activities will give students a sense of cause and effect. There are many items on this list that will help children with small motor skills to build up their hand strength for writing not to mention their stamina for concentrating.
